    Am I doing something wrong?
yes, you've installed the diablo version from the diablo's extras devel repository.
disable it and install it again from the maemo.org site.

I found even if you install it from the maemo.org site Xournal will not start after you have started it and then close it by clicking the 'x' in the upper right hand corner. You MUST Quit Xournal from it's menu, if not it will still be running in the background. The only way to quit it then will be to run 'Top' in a terminal to find the PID number for Xournal and run 'Kill' the PID number for Xournal OR reboot.

    just a testimonial from a student's perspective

XOURNAL has officially replaced my notebook!

    now i can:
    1. catch up on notetaking with my pathology professor who manages to churn out 10 words per second

    2. rearrange my notes later on and add emphases by highlighting important stuff

    3. quickly toggle between checking references on my palm medical apps and writing my patient's history (especially useful during an interview)

    4. draw anatomical structures alongside my notes

    5. share my notes by exporting them to pdf and sending them to my classmate's smartphones

    6. look cool while typing

    7. actually READ AND UNDERSTAND my notes. now i don't have to decipher my handwriting anymore!

THANK YOU! from the bottom of my basal ganglia!

Well that does not happen to me and others who are running Diablo.
Could you tell me, please, which version of Xournal are you running on which OS version ?

I am very glad that Xournal helps you so much !

The original author (Denis) should be thanked too. He'll be glad to know it.

    Thanks for using it

The same happens to me. When I launch Load Applet to kill Xournal, I can see a popup box telling 'Autosaving document'.

I am running version 0.4.2.1-1diablo2 on Diablo.

    Thanks.

    Exactly.

You guys are running an alpha release of Xournal for Diablo.
You guys, if you are not developers, should NOT have the Diablo's Extras Devel repository enabled.

Again, disinstall this version of Xournal, disable/remove the Diablo's extras devel repository and re-install Xournal from maemo.org.
After the installation of the Chinook version of Xournal, disable both the chinook extras repositories that Xournal adds.
