two options:
- Maintain your local CUPS server on the N810.
There should be noting special in respect to the N810.
As a starting point in a web browser goto http://127.0.0.1:631
when the local CUPS server is running. For your printer setup
follow the link I gave in post #50.
The settings depend on your environment.
- Print to PDF files and print these with your other hosts.
I Plan on using the local CUPS server and I have already gone through the web browser setup.
The link that you gave me is what I would do if the CUPS included contained all the drivers but the one in the KDE package does not seem to have all the drivers, only select ones.
I will try several different settings and see if I can get it to work but as far as following the directions provided in the link. It's not likely since they weren't included. Atleast I cant find them. If I'm blind and an idiot... let me know where they are, I'll be grateful.
CUPS by it self has only few example drives. Other software like
e.g. foomatic or gutenprint provide such drivers. Apparently this
packages are not available. That is why I prefer using a full
blown CUPS server on a remote host because of the needed
dependency's and the hardware resources for good performance.
As on the provided link pxlmono is mentioned as usable driver
you can test "HP LaserJet Series PCL 6" from ESP because it
make use of pxlmono. It is included in CUPS12.tar.bz2 and I
guess it is also available in the KDE package.
I know I'm a little late with this but can someone direct me to any specific information on how exactly to build abiword with cups support? I am also looking for information on how to get a few programs to work with cups. I was able to print the test page over my network on my Brother Laser printer. (FYI: I know people have been looking for a specific ppd for Brother laser printers... I have a Brother HL-2170 series printer and just used the LJ PCL 4/5 driver for it).
I've grown fond of claws for my email, gnumeric for my spreadsheets, and abiword for my papers. If someone could direct me to any information on how to build these for my n800 with printer support for cups I would greatly appreciate it.
I'd sure in hell love to not lug around my laptop and use my su8w and n800 for my primary schoolwork machine. I was very excited when I was able to print the test page but after looking for an abiword / claws solution for quite a while I came to the conclusion that there isn't much information on how to get them working with cups on the n800. If someone could throw me a bone that would be great.
CUPS is a print spooler using the Internet Printing Protocol
(IPP) to provide postscript printers. With helper tools
(drivers) it even converts non postscript printers to
postscript printers.
So from the view of an application there is nothing special
to use CUPS. If it is capable to use a postscript printer
via IPP it is capable to use CUPS.
I do not know any of the programs you like to use. So the
following is only guessing.
For claws I found this:
If libgnomeprintui is not available you can try "lpr %s" as
the print command. If there is no printer set as default
in CUPS you have to use "lpr -P <printername> %s".
