Thank you Gregg
That's a pretty good site. The facilities are very good. Lots to choose from cropping, resizing, rotating, colour saturation, colour bias, sharpness and all that kind of thing.

It's a bit heavy on the advertising and nagging you to register or upgrade. But I think it's free to register. It certainly could be a useful site to use when needing to play around with photos in the absence of any good Photoshop or PSP programs to do the job for you. I suspect it would be more useful on a home PC if you haven't got software to do this. The Nokia N800 might be a bit costly to do photo editing online, if one is using Bluetooth on a GSM G3 or GPRS internet connection as they charge a lot on-air for data downloading at least on the UK mobile networks.

Anyhow the link you've given me is a good one and I vote it a good solution to the original question I put up here. Thank you for that.
Cheers

Don't be surprised if I'm back here asking more questions about how to make it work properly?[/QUOTE]

I think I'd best close this thread. The latest news is that Expansys in the UK can't replace the N800 as they've run out of stock and have told me the model has been discontinued. They offered a store credit note to purchase something else or a refund. I opted for a refund. I am afraid I lost confidence in the Nokia on the grounds of it not being robust enough.
Instead I've opted to try a Hewlett Packard PDA and from a different supplier.

Thanks for all the help on this thread.
I'll have to see if I can close the thread officially now.
Regards

You can't; only administrators (Reggie) can close threads; it's not likely there'll be a lot more posted here though; there may be a flurry of posts like this (which I do mean, but wouldn't have bothered posting if not for posting the above anyway):

Well, I hope you get a device that works well for you, but I really don't think it's fair to write off Nokias in general or N800s in particular on the basis of robustness; you got a lemon (and we probably could have told you that in 20 minutes, if we'd been there playing with it instead of talking through a forum), and that's more likely due to a manufacturing defect than to robustness. (BTW, Expansys lies. N800 is not discontinued yet.) But if you can't get a replacement, maybe a different device makes sense for you. A different supplier definitely makes sense.

Anyway, good luck, and if you ever do jump on a good deal for an N8x0 (perhaps when the much-famed N900 is announced), you know where to come for help.

Thanks for that very honest appraisal. I find I agree with you on all points. I'm only slightly dubious about the robustness issue. When my N800 fell from the bed onto the carpeted floor a distance of just 54cm or about 1 foot 8 inches, onto its top corner, the whole of the upper part of the case split from the back leaving the screen loose.

Now I've dropped mobile phones off my lap onto concrete getting out of the car and not found the case split open. They are usually far more secure than that, and removing the "skin" is often a very tricky affair. The N800 just broke open like an egg.

Many many aspects of it were superb and I could have really enjoyed using it for a long time if I had not been served a lemon. I did consider the next model but I wondered if a 900 might be on the way so I opted for an HP iPAQ instead. I'm still negotiating with Expansys to find out why I was not refunded the 17.5% tax (VAT) from my original cost payment. I'll work something out but as you said I'm probably better going to another supplier now. I'm still staying with Amazon though as they seem to do a good efficient deal most of the time.

Thanks again for your help and the rest of those that contributed.
Cheers

Does anyone know if there's a version of GIMP in the works for the Maemo platform? That's a good linux image editor. I know it would have to be trimmed WAY down to work on the low memory of the internet tablet. I'm no programmer so I have no idea if this is even possible.

Install Debian and GIMP works quite well within N800 environment. I've actually edited and colorized 7mp images with GIMP on the N800!
