Is there a way to setup the Nokia 770 to control whats playing on your PC? I want to use it to control Winamp or Windows media Player as a TCP/IP remote.

Run a VNC server on your PC, then use VNCviewer to control whatever you want on your PC

You cant use ether one but you can use Mediastreamer with MythTV or Nokias own Simplecenter and you will be able to control what plays in your computer or stream to your Nokia 770.

Specifically Mediastreamer is a uPnP client/controler that should allow you to control a uPnP server running on your computer to pipe whatever you want to a client running on your computer (or to the client running on the 770 ... music only at the moment) ... if you can find a server/client combination that works with Mediastreamer flawlessly.

You could also try something like one of the web interface plugins for Winamp like Wawi:

I second that, probably a little easier then getting into VNC servers and viewers although not that the latter is overly complicted.

I just installed that winamp plugin and it works wonderfully! Thanks Mwiktowy!

I can now relax on the bed and change the songs and build new playlists etc. THis will be awesome when im on a date!

The web interface is ugly but thorough. The added bonus is that you can download the tunes from the interface so that you can effectively down your favorite tunes from your collection directly to the Nokia 770 in case you want to listen to it locally or you run outside with the Nokia 770!

I really wanted to avoid the overhead of running VNC constantly. It's overkill for most situations - and often slow as molasses: but thanks for the suggestion.

By the way, i've used Vibestreamer which is free ( http://www.vibestreamer.com/ ) to let others listen to my music collection remotely via the web. I'd imagine it would work on the nokia770 too.

Just curious why wouldnt you use media streamer instead?
It saves you the time of browsing or downloading... Just curious..

mediastreamer streames media TO the nokia 770.

I want to use the nokia 770 to control the playback of media on my computer - like a fancy touch screen remote that can list all the songs.

I have about 40 gigs of mp3s that I can now play at my lesuire from the bed with my mighty nokia 770!

Alternatively: run a slimserver client (like slimp3) on your computer, use the Slimserver web interface to control it.
