Not sure if this is the place to put this, but since updating Pidgin this morning, I can no longer go directly to my browser and web e-mail from the app. It seems it changed the default browser to MANUAL, with no other choice and greyed out the chance to change it. As a temporary fix, if I knew what to type into the Manual settings to point to the browser, that would help. Using N810 with Diablo
Well there was another update today and now pidgin won't even start. Anyone else have this problem?
Yea, I actually saw the notice of a new update today, and foolishly downloading it, with the HOPE that it would correct the problem. Of course, after installing, My pidgin no longer opened either. So I uninstalled it and all the associated apps, and now when I try to reinstall, I get "corrupt installation file errors" WONDERFUL! I just LOVE software developers. 'scuse me, "Engineers" I LOVE how they TEST their apps BEFORE releasing them, I LOVE how they break what's not broken. This is TRULY a group of FINE FINE individuals. Yea, they're "engineers" like Sarah Palin is a "maverick" So now, due to the FINE FINE work of these dedicated men and women, I have a $400 piece of equipment that I can no longer use for IM, and rarely can use for even E-mail, as ever since the upgrade to Diablo, that is screwed up as well. What a great investment. Perhaps I can dump this hunk of junk and get a new Ipod Touch
Pidgin USED to work wonderfully, before the last 2 "updates" I just wasted 20 minutes reflashing and STILL get the corrupt installation file error. I looked at RTcomm, but it says I can't install it because I'm missing some packages. Look, I'm not a techno geek, I just expect what I paid for to work. Two VERY basic functions. Unfortunately, without them, this thing is an expensive Ipud.
davidsco27 the devel repository is not supposed to be used for "productivity", in fact is something developers use to upload the latest ports so they can share them with other people, who than give feedbacks to point out what is good, what can be better and what is really really bad...
Whenever you try to install an app a warning is issued, you have to decide if you can take the chance to try something that can or cannot work or not...
Simply uninstall pidgin, disable the devel repository, use the search option to find a known working version of pidgin and install it... as simple as that, no more no less.
st5150 look in the Application Manager, there's the list of repositories you're using, check if the extra-devel is enabled or not
I understand that. It did not come from the deval repository. I have looked for a place and a way of installing an older version, but have come up empty. Their site is about as useless as a submarine with screen doors. It seems to have no been updated in months. The forums there are unanswered, and there is no way of getting any assistance or finding an older version for the N810.
If you post the exact errors I'm sure some nice people here will volunteer their time and help you out. For starters, follow all the steps on this website: http://rtcomm.garage.maemo.org/ and I think you paid $400 for the hardware from Nokia, not the software since Pidgin is open source and has nothing to do with Nokia, just some nice folks decided to port pidgin to the maemo platform.... for free.
