    From TI's website,I know OMAP2420 support MPEG4 VGA encoder/decoder at 30 fps,but MPEG -4 include several formats,
    such as avi,asf,divx,,xvid,asf,mov etc.
I want to know for which format OMAP2420 have the best optimization.
I have many .rmvb movies,I want to transform them into mpeg4,
get the best effect on N800.

    Other two questions:
1、What's the best bit rate,If the resolution is VGA(640*480)?
2、What‘s the best player/decoder,Mplayer or VLC?
    Thanks!

The IVA isn't used on the N8x0 due to a number of things, afaiu, including the difficulties of licensing the kernel code to run on it.

To answer your second question, mplayer. No idea about the settings mind you.

Like lardman stated, the N800/N810 doesn't make full use of the OMAP2420's capabilities.

Before reencoding, try playing your rmvb files in Mplayer. They might not need to be reencoded at all.

Nokia don't use IVA or No IVA?
If Nokia don't use it ,that will mean:
maybe Nokia will turn on it in the future or by the third party software.
If no IVA in N800's processor, that's a bad news.

I have tried play many .rmvb files, but it is not very smooth, but when I reencoded them to mped4,they will be better.Decoding the rmvb files consume too much CPU resource.

IIRC Nokia did not use it because the tablets screen is to high a resolution to use it, i.e.it could not draw the whole screen.

It is present in the OMAP2420 (which is what's in the N8x0 devices), it's not used. I can't see why the problem would be screen resolution, if there were some memory limitation you'd just have to draw a smaller area (and upscale it). The issue for us, afaiu, is that the IVA "kernel" and tasks and all information about programming it are only available under NDA/through officially endorsed 3rd party suppliers. This combination is, afaiu, what stopped Nokia from using it.
