Internal Flash should umount on the tablet and show on your computer, format it from your computer then.
If it can't umount you'll get an error message in the tablet, and this is because there is some process accessing the memory, probably metalayer-crawler (it will eat a good amount of cpu too). Kill that process or wait patiently until it finish crawling.
Format it then.

Advice: learn the command line and any problem like this will become trivial to solve.
Alternative way using command line:
Open xterm
Become root
umount the internal mmc card with "umount /media/mmc2"
if it can't umount, stop metalayer-crawler "/etc/init.d metalayer-crawler0 stop" and try again.
If still can't umount, kill any process accessing the card. Find them using "lsof|grep mmc2"
Once umounted, format it "mkfs.vfat /dev/mmcblk0p1"
Strange I tried what running process was accessing mmc2:
(screenshots taken from a putty session of a wifi connection with the N810 with root

lsof reports access to mmc1 (4 mb external minisd card)not to the internal 2mb card:

And here the root dirs of mmc1 and mmc2 (virtual memory is enabled again so one sees .swap on mmc2)

This screenshot show also that matalayer-crawler (what is that ? ) is running.

Should I also (beside disabling virtual memory) kill this process befor umounting ?

Currently I have NO problems with the internal mmc2, but I want to take preventive measures against later corruption problems.

metalayer-crawler is a process, part of the multimedia player, which scans the mmc and flash indexing multimedia files.
If the card is umounted you don't need any further meassures, except umounting in the PC before unplugging the usb cable like any other usb memory stick.

The thing is that my N800 cannot read the card, but it is usable with my laptop... I've already formatted it using fdisk... any more ideas?

fdisk is a partition table tool, you can't format the card with it, use mkfs.vfat for that.

FYI - I had a problem recently where a) I had to use a different micro SD->full size adapter and b) I had to use a different USB reader to get my computer to recognize the SD card. Worth trying if everything else fails.

Yes, you should repartition and reformat the card, make sure it has one partition and it is fat formatted|
