Great that its now downloaded, however, the page just literally shows a map of the uk, I can move into other locations but when i do the show my location tab, it does nothing. It just says location not available but there is a symbol showing a satellite which I guess is the gps system. Again is there something I should be doing.

iirc, if you do not have agps set up, and either a wifi or phone based connection to the net, the internal gps will take its sweet time getting a proper lock-on...

but when that happens, it should zoom in on your location automatically.

MY machine is currently on a wifi connection and has been for several hours. The location just stays the same, The central point of the screen is just in the middle of the irish sea. Doesnt move at all. Do I have to do something else to the gps system on the tablet. It states its enabled. Am I supposed to use a seperate device.

may i ask if you have clear view of the skies?

gps signals are poor at penetrating the insides of buildings...

Well just been freezing cold in the garden, and still nothing. I have a lot of fields etc around my house so i dont think the signal could be blocked by other buildings, so I guess Ill have to live with the fact that it just dont work, lol

After starting the map application, do you see a satellite symbol in the system task bar at the right upper corner?

When you're outside, click on the fourth symbol (the satellite one) in the Maps application at the bottom. It will show you the lock and the signal strength of the satellites.
As already written, it may take some time to get the current position automatically displayed - see the favourite https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2878 .

pavlov0161, I've read on the forums about positioning your N810 to get the best/quickest gps fix. Try holding your N810 completely upright (so the power button on the top faces straight up) while holding it towards the south. When doing this, I've noticed I get a decent gps fix in about a minute when using either the N810's map application (from navicore/wayfinder) or maemo mapper.

And another note, you can delete the US/Canada maps from your device to free up space on your internal memory card. Open up the N810's file manager and click on "Internal memory card", click on map, then click mapdata_USA-West and delete it by clicking the trash can on the lower panel. Deleting "mapdata_USA-West" frees up over 700MB of storage on the card. If you don't want Canada-Alaska and USA-East you can delete those as well. I'd recommend making a backup to your computer before deleting just in case you decide you want/need them back on your N810.

It also might be a good idea to format your internal memory card as some N810's had data corruption errors with the internal memory card. That might be what was originally causing your map download to fail.
