Successfully installed minigpsd, and manage to start it (as verified by ps), but for some reason neither the map app or maemo mapper finds the gps daemon. As soon as I stop minigpsd, and restart map or maemo mapper (starting the original gpsd), they work OK.

If the original gpsd is running, minigpsd won't work right.

Double check you have the latest. www.zdez.org front page should have the latest pre version

It needs to be started first and locked. Then the map program needs to "enable gps", though that won't start gpsd if minigpsd is running.

Thanks for the quick response! How do I ensure the original gpsd doesn't start?

I have the latest version of minigpsd, and I have the applet loading, and ps showing the minigopsd process is active. How do I "lock" it?

Seems that starting the map program also starts the original gpsd, but in zombie mode.

If you exit all mapping applications, and/or uncheck enable gps in the nokia map application it should shut down. You can also do "killall gpsd" until it says "no process killed".

Start minigpsd, wait a bit for it to lock, then do enable gps in map.

Thanks, that did it - but starting map does cause a zombie gpsd process to hang around. And maemo mapper seems to need the map application to be running in order to find the gps.

I shall have to try the various things when I get a chance.

I should have a new statusbar app up this weekend that will work much better and can start/stop without the rest.

    Unstable, but for the curious:

pre-release candidate. Configuration changed (including gconf entries). New bluetooth scan/set screen (it will pause while scanning - I'm working on that). But it should be much easier to configure.

    sources for those interested:

TODO - fix missing icon on first start, add gpsgate interval, some cleanup including inital gconf. Documentation (e.g. the BT scan will use existing config and then scan and let you set both obd and gps devices, obd is in advanced).

Meanwhile the touchscreen on my n810 is completely uncalibratable which is slowing things. I have a wimax edition coming and have been using my n800, but it has gotten slower.

    Hi,

I can't install the statusbar applet, it depends on python-hildondesktop. Is that package a "red pill" item?

I have the same problem. I have python2.5-hildondesktop, but apt-get wont find python-hildondesktop!

Edit: Ok, looks like only one or the other can be installed! Can you switch to the newer python2.5 one?
