I bought a replacement battery on eBay from a company named "el-future" for about $6 shipped. Got it and it really is bad - very poor battery life. el-future is no longer in business so it will be interestng to see if PayPal can get me my $6 back.
Anyone have a recommendation for a replacement battery? I'll try another one on eBay - but what seller should I try?
After gradually losing battery performance over 2 years of intensive usage of my N800, and reading around in the various posts here, I decided to go for the pricey but genuine Nokia replacement battery. It's $44.99 on Amazon via a vendor called SF Planet.
There may be some great deal out there on a cheap clone battery, but i was happy to pay a premium to reliably return to the very long battery life I originally enjoyed on the N800.
I did that with the charger ^^. I paid almost 50% more for the original thing, but when it comes to electricity in my gadgets I prefer to be safe. Other stuff can be chinese knock offs for all I care, If they do the job.
Well, PayPal got me my $6 back for the knockoff Chinese battery and I bought a new battery (supposedly an original Nokia battery) from SFPlanet.com. I saw a discount code on CNET (code is CNETPROMO and you need to put it in the BOTTOM coupon entry box at SFPLANET) and that took the price down to $34.15 shipped. Not a bad deal IF the battery works as well as my original one did when I got my N800.

If Sony/Nokia/Panasonic (Matushita) can't make a safe battery, your intent to buy safe by purchasing only name brands has little validity. It is all throwing dice when it comes to buying lithium batteries.

That is the point that I have expressed in earlier threads.
