Hi,
I've been trying to save a shell script to /usr/local/bin/ but get an error (not permitted, I think). Is there something I need to do to enable saving to that directory? I'm a newbie to shell scripting and am just trying to save a file created using vi.
Thanks for any advice.

You need to be root.

Installing sudser will allow you to use sudo on the command line. No password will be requested. Check out http://nitapps.com/. It has the nano editor which you can use with sudo and a bunch of other interesting hacks.
