don't mean to change the topic but i'm trying to connect to wimax here in portland, OR. i'm reading it's available for testing but i'm wondering how i'd be able to connect or even check if there's wimax availability in my location. i tried creating a new connection under connectivity settings and i select wimax, after a long search it doesn't find anything. any other way to connect to wimax?

I wonder if they are testing the WiMAX system like they are doing in these other areas or are they close testing it?

What device are you using to try to connect?

From my understanding that would be Clearwires area as well. Awaiting a reply!

I'm pretty positive some other cities are testing, i'm wondering if the n810 would be able to detect the wimax networks sort of like detecting wifi networks?

Promethh has been keeping me updated daily on his adventures into WiMAX.

Post more info lets get speed tests! What device are you using?
Doing a speed test would have been a good idea lol. I'm always on the move so I can keep upadating until we officially launch. Is www.speedtest.net pretty accurate?

Oh, and I have an N810 WiMAX Edition...

That is correct, I picked up a wimax signal in New Haven, CT the other day.

The N810 can sniff out WiMAX networks (XOHM only I presume or whatever frequency XOHM is running on). If your in a test area, you may be able to join for a short period of time before getting booted, to stay on, you MAC address has to be registered as a tester.

There are multi-band chips sampling now. Nextwave and Fujitsu are two...

Now that is something I would like to see in the "N900".

Yeah I would say Speedtest.net is pretty accurate, if you can load it. Is there a mobile speed test site? Maybe: http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1

Please also post if the signal drops as you move around from one antenna area to the next and you have to reconnect. WiMax has been described as a "citywide hotspot", but it seems that Sprint needed more antenna sites than expected. A signal drop is really harmful when trying to use VoIP (even if it reconnects quickly).

The only stable areas at this moment are going to be Baltimore City for mobile devices (based on coverage maps from XOHM).

Most of the posters (Mister Ecua, Gonzo1082, Promethh, PunterJoe) are in test areas, and I would hope they are in the understanding as such.
