I don't have a data plan with my cell phone, so I'd like to pre-download the maps before I go on a trip. How do I do it? I'd appreciate it very much if anyone can give a step-by-step guide.

Thanks for the link. But the guide only shows how to download a route from origin to destination. I was wondering if there's a way to define a box that contains the region where my travel activities will most occur?

Menu -> Maps -> Manage Maps

You can set up Zoom and things (so the levels it downloads) in the zoom tab.
Area allows you to specify the square you want to download inside of. This is automatically populated by the current viewing area.

Click OK.
