I have a N810. When I'm opening it while Xterm and start typing, an extra status bar (with "abc") appears - possibly to help typing like T9. Can I disable this bar because it is taking up precious space.

Other simple question: can I hide two from the 3 default icons on the upper left corner of the display? (web browsing and starting default email client)

Yes. Go to Control Panel -> Text Input Settings.

Tap the Languages tab, then the Settings button under 1st language.

Deselect Word Completion and/or Next Word Prediction.

Press Shift and space together, then it gets rid of it of the bar.
