Well, if you could do a "dpkg -l | grep python" and post it somewhere for us, also with a list of repositories and more info (as handful asked), we might be able to help you a little bit more.
Just to be clear, Carman is still working, and Canola isn't ? If things are really bad, it would probably be easier for you to flash the device anew, backing up configs and stuff before.

Hmm, could this be a database table incompatibility? Have you tried removing ~/.canola?

Thanks pycage
how do you go about removing it? i have done six uninstall and reinstall using the cleanup tool each time reboot in between and disabling all repository except two extras and nokia closed repos to avoid these problems, well i will go to thier website to see if there are more clearer instructions since there are too much threads covering canola it is not easy to trace solutions if not i will wait for a future stable release.

edit: I had to remove my "dpkg -l | grep python" results, the list was way too long
Maybe attaching a file would be a better idea

Carman works just fine (and I'm starting to wish I had one of the supported car interfaces ), the whole system works, it's just something missing for Canola...

Here's my active repositories (default Nokia repositories non incleded)
Anunakin http://maemo.vivaphp.net/ diablo | misc
Maemo diablo/tools http://repository.maemo.org/ diablo/tools | free
Diablo maemo extras http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ diablo| free non-free
mg.pov.lt (Diablo) http://mg.pov.lt/770 diablo | user other

My problem with Canola, is that I find that it doesn't recognized the internal memory card. It finds the 256 mb of ram and the external 1gb card that I put in there but, not the internal 2 gb.

You seem to be missing /etc/osso_software_version, a file that canola-cleanup uses to determine which version of the SO you're using. Try seeing if this package is installed : osso-software-version-rx44.
If you can open a terminal, try running : dpkg -l | grep osso-software

Otherwise, pycage's reply is probably correct. If you would like to remove .canola yourself, just open a terminal and run : rm -rf ~/.canola
