For some reason, I keep bumping into a program called gpsdrive when I am tinkering with things on my desktop. It is a GPS navigation tool that supports vector maps from openstreetmap.org, uses GTK+, runs on numerous power-limited devices, stores POIs in a proper mysql database, supports wardriving and does routing. It is also stable.

In other words, it's awesome.

A Google search tells me this program was ported to the 770, and presumably worked... then all mention of it for Maemo vanished off the face of the Earth in late 2006. Any idea what happened to it and if an N810 version exists?

If I recall properly, Gnuite worked on it briefly, then created maemo-mapper. Which is OMG 5000% better than gpsdrive. As someone who used gpsdrive on the 770 and on PC's, maemo-mapper is the way to go.
