Is this a Diablo or Chinook device? I had the same issue with a Chinook device. It appears that the Chinook boot loader doesn't allow for a kernel that big.

One guy talking on google groups had similar issue, flash the whole device to latest .bin provided by nokia, then try again. That helped with him, i hope it works for you too

I am using the miniSD comes with my original N800, which is only 128MB, you can use the fdisk to create the 3rd master partition directly.

One is about moving to proper part of kernel which means ALSA (which you can use) so this part should now be in ALSA. The other one is unused code. But one could readd these patches in a later kernel if necessary.

I saw that Solca updated the debugging kernel for 770. Unfortunately this version doesn't work too. This time the Nokia logo fades to white screen and that's it After 20-30 seconds the device shuts down.
