I cant even move up from the very first 2007 my N800 came out with!

RX-34_2007SE_2.2006.51-6_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

I cant get the Nokia wizard to do the auto update, wants me to enter proxy to use it. so I just download the software and try that way and no go for mine, of course it will let me reinstall the same software that's on it all day long.

At times I feel like putting my n800 under the truck tire and driving over it a few hundred times!

I cant even get 3% of the software in mine to work due to it needing other files.

Rather than putting it under your truck tire... why not send it to me? I'd love a spare. ;^)

Only Diablo allows online OS upgrades... that was it's main redesign/selling-point.
To upgrade beyond what you have, you will have to back up all of your files with the backup tool and re-flash to the newer OS.

Once you do that.... tons of new software will be available.

Sorry, I misunderstood.
When you said "auto update", I thought you meant the software package management tool built into the N800's OS.

If you mean the MS-windows tool, I'm afraid I cannot help you (I use Linux, and always use it for flashing my 770s & N800).

One thing I can tell you is the Linux tool won't work unless you have the device off and unplugged and turn it on while holding the home key while it is already plugged into the USB port (not positive about the home key thing, seems I've had it work without it on occasion). The software has to be running and waiting for the device when you do this.

I did a little more digging, and I did notice that one part of the instructions on Nokia's website doesn't seem to make sense (probably because I've never seen the software).
I started here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware
...which led me here: https://www.nokiausa.com/A4410958#
...where I found this: https://www.nokiausa.com/link?cid=PLAIN_TEXT_189091
...which said this:

Instructions for manual update:

1. Follow steps 1-2 above.
2. Download the software image that you wish to update to from http://maemo.org/downloads/nokia_N800.
3. To access the Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard on your computer, open the Start menu and select Programs > Nokia > Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard > Nokia Internet Tablet Software Update Wizard.
4. Follow the instructions on screen to complete the software update.
5. On the summary page of the wizard, press the change button to select the software image you downloaded in step 2 from your computer's file system.

Step 5 is the one that seems odd to me... but maybe it makes sense when you're running the software.

Does it give you an error when you try to flash one of the newer releases?
What release(s) have you tried to flash?

(can anyone else, who has run the windows software, jump in here?)

That's how I have been doing it, I cant install any of the updated software it tells me this "unsupported software update file" but it will let me install the one I already have on it, but that don't help much really. I have tried everyone on that list and none but the beta first release will work

well so I am screwed pretty much is what the tech at Nokia just told me, I have a N800 from Finland and it cant be updated or upgraded past what it has now since they don't support updating it anymore thought the correct country site for it.

Just for grins and such I went to the site downloaded the wizard from the site and even the os and yeah same as the one from here in the us, don't work....

Guess I know why the guy was selling it now!

Thanks for all the help and trying guys

Download ubuntu, boot it up from live cd and use linux flasher. I have upgraded my tablet once with Vista and that was painful. Flashing with linux is a lot easier.

Thanks for the advice but the Nokia tech said I could try whatever I would like but there will never be a chance to get mine to flash to a newer system than whats on it.

The same with the apps, cant use but maybe 3 of them because they have things missing I have to have to install them.

Oh well win some loose some right.

I tried with ubuntu the other day as we run our computers at work on them

i have an identical problem and having tried numerous things (like you) also cannot get this device updated.
is it possible to flash entirely from within the device itself without usb being involved?
