    Hardware changes in letest productions?

I own several PPC's one being the X51V. Thinking about trying the 770. Are there any known hardware changes in the later productions besides the 2006 operating software changes? Is the 770 going to be replaced by an upgraded edition? Thanks...

    a) There are no known real distinctions between 770s except country of manufacture.

    b) There are rumours of a successor (being dubbed the "880"); lots of threads on it here, in particular: Nokia FCC filing reveals more details on next tablet

    HTH,

all 770s have the same hardware, regardless of which os version they shipped with. It is, however likely that nokia will release a updated internet tablet sometime in the first half of 2007, they appear to be in the final stages of r&d at the moment.

Ok and thanks on the information. My fellow employee owns a 770 and upgraded to the 2006 OS.

We have compared WIFI performance on my X51V and 4350 along with his 770 and all three units perform nearly the same on transmit and recieve.

I may place an order for a new Nokia 770, but I need a few more hours with his unit to get the buy fever!

Well they are basically same but there may be slight differences. Newer kernels contain drivers for two different LCD panels (or touchscreens? I'm not sure now), I've read in some later IT2006 review that the reviewer felt the display is different (larger?) from first device he reviewed half year ago . Also there are two firmwares present on the device for wi-fi chip since IT2005 days, my device (one of the first devices) loads the older one. Can be seen in dmesg output.

Also newest kernel contain checks in MMC code and uses faster MMC bus speed and 4 bit mode if bootloader sends some magic value but this may be just preparation for next (miniSD slot based) model. But it is still called as N770 in kernel sources just different revision so it is a bit of mystery.

But still those are minor differences so it can be said there is probably no significant change between models.

It depends on how you define "same hardware". Over the course of a product's life it is only natural that vendors change and some components are improved.
