The physical size does not change when you get the“hc” .

There are three sizes of SDHC cards, SDHC, MiniSDHC, and MicroSDHC. The N810 uses the MiniSDHC. You can also use a MicroSDHC, if you have a MicroSDHC to MiniSDHC adapter. Sometimes you can find a MicroSDHC card that is packaged with a MiniSDHC adapter.

See illustration here.

See Wikipedia article on SDHC here.

HC stands for High Capacity. It doesn't mean anything in terms of physical size. Instead, it indicates the card follows a newer revision of the Secure Digital (SD) specification that allows for cards of greater capacity.

The original SD cards were about postage stamp/thumbnail size. SDHC cards are also available in this size. You likely purchased one these. They don't physically fit into the N810.

The N810 has a MiniSD-sized card slot. MiniSD cards are physically smaller than regular, old, full-sized SD cards, but they use the same internal technology. Therefore, like regular SD cards, MiniSD cards are also available in higher capacity, MiniSDHC variants.

Finally, there's MicroSD. MicroSD cards are physically the smallest of the three types, but they still retain the same internal technology, and so there are MicroSDHC models available.

Your N810 will work with MiniSD and MiniSDHC cards. It will also accept MicroSD and MicroSDHC, but you'll need an inexpensive Micro to Mini size adapter to get the Micro card up to the physical size the N810's slot will accept.

EDIT; I'm way too slow.

Yeah, I use MicroSD in my n810 too via a mini-sd adapter. It works great. Well, at least it does until the adapter pukes. ^_^;;
