I have a problem with the lock code of my new N800.

I tried to change the lock code by entering the original code (12345) and then my new code twice. After taht, neither my new code nor the original code were recognised.

The user manual said that if you lost your code, you must contact a Nokia service center. I went to the nerest service center (a shop in town). The people were not familiar with the N800 but they said that I will have to pay for the service as the lost of the code was not covered by the waranty..... From my point of view this is unacceptable as I think that it is a malfunction of the machine if my new lock code is not recognised....

How can I handle this stupid lock code issue?

As last option, you can reflash your device.

I think I read somewhere that lock codes are one of the very few things that survive a full flash...
My guess is, it can only be reset through the special serial connector under the battery cover and with the appropriate software ?

I wish the lock code screen was a little more finger friendly...

Yes, the lock code survived the reflash of the device, at least with today version of OS2007. Every thing else was reset.

If I don't set the device to lock on automatically, do I have a chance to have it locked by a wrong manipulation?

Any solutions aside going to Nokia and pay for the service?
