First and foremost, I am new to Linux and the N800 and have installed the OS2008. I am experiencing problems with using external SD cards (I have a 2GB and a 256mb card) with my unit. Let me describe the problems:

1. My N800 does not detect the presence of any SD card when I insert one into the internal card slot. Unit detects the 2GB card when inserted into the external card slot, but not the 256 card.

2. Removable disk icon in file manager disappears after formating the card using the unit, reappearing when one reinserts the card or reboots the system.

3. Attempts to rename the card produces error message "Card corrupt... " and prompts to repair.

4. Files that are copied onto the card using the unit - either through internet downloads or transfering data that already exist in unit to card - does not work. For example, I can copy/paste a user manual pdf file from the unit to the card and the copy is completed but the document will not load when I click on the copied file from the card, producing error message "File corrupt".

5. The unit can read files that are copied onto the card using an external card reader but I cannot delete these files using the unit, nor will formating the card using the unit eliminate these files as well.

I have flashed the unit recently but these problems still exist. Would most appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

This is purely anecdotal, and a wild stab in the dark; but I've had similar intermittent problems, and haven't seen them for a bit now.

There is a small magnet in the back cover to tell the N800 if it's open or closed. If open, the internal SD card is not available. My back cover is pretty loose, and I am wondering if the N800 kept thinking I was opening it, disabling (and then re-enabling) the SD card. I now have used some tape to hold the back cover in place more firmly now, and that seems to have fixed it.

Might be worth a try. On the downside (minor annoyance) I can't take the card out easily for use in a external reader anymore.
