OK, I went through the perl script and can see what you're doing. That script takes a single map file and tiles it. There is a rotation based on an SK parameter too - very slick.
What I don't understand is how do you combine the tiles from different maps together. There are some tiles that have parts of different maps. Where does that combining take place?
Also, one thing about the perl script from above. Where is the border of the map removed? USGS topos have something called a "collar" around them with things like the name of the map, legend, etc. Do the maps you're working with have that and does that bsb2png application remove them?
I have checked your site and found a section that you have charts tiled for like San Francisco Bay. Then gone to the N800 and cranked up Maemo Mapper and zoom down to the same area with a google regular street map. then I choose the noaa chart off the mapper maps selection menu, configured to your URL. the screen in the mapper viewing area goes black. the loading map bar appears, as normal, with a moving bar. it appears to get right to the end and then the error. No chart tiles are ever displayed and i get the download error. If i choose any other areas to test i get a different number of maps that failed to load but it appears to be evaluating what tiles it needs to go get. Does it only work with certain zoom levels?
Sorry about that -- not really sure why, but I haven't been receiving notifications that people have replied to this thread.
Mike, did your issue get resolved? I'm not sure if there might be a timeout problem with the blacking out. I noticed that this does happen occasionally with maemo mapper using my tiles. I suspect that this is because my images are pngs with 4 full channels and therefore tend to have a larger memory footprint than most overlays. Anyway my suspicion is that maemo mapper is crashing with a certain amount of memory usage, not sure though. I did see the black screen followed by a maemo mapper crash, but I reopened it and it did fine.
Mike, it should be working for all zoom levels wherever there is chart data. I'm a little annoyed with my web host as they're a little slow and I occasionally experience server errors even though I'm nowhere near my bandwidth limit. First check that the tiles you want to see do appear when you open www.harborfinder.net in a regular web browser.
man, this is fantastic! i am having a problem with the maps, however. the part that i'm interested in (potomac river, va, near colonial beach, fwiw), doesn't download past zoom level 7. other areas on the map work fine. if i go to harborview.net with my browser, i get the same areas that will display satellite imagery, but no noaa maps at a particular zoom level. although with the browser on my laptop, the resolution is better. is this a limitation of the maps themselves, or the server, or what? thanks! either way, this is really great.
It appears harborfinder.net is no longer. Is there an updated url to point the maemo mapper repository too? Very interested in getting NOAA (and LINZ if possible) charts on an N800.
