Bought an N810, should arrive Friday. I was planning on getting a mini-SD card while they are on sale. What is the largest capacity that the N810 can handle? I've seen various numbers in various places, from 2GB to 8GB to 16GB.
Also, what lives on the external SD? I have a Zaurus, which had an SD and a CF slot. Generally, the base of the OS was on the internal flash, then the system "pivoted" to the SD card, where the "real" OS lived. The CF card could be mounted manually with media or whatever on them.
On the N810, which has 2GB internal storage, I'm guessing the OS goes on the internal flash with room to spare...
Don't know for sure about the max size, but the docs say 8Gb. I suspect that will be higher with patches and hacks, etc..
Stock, the N810 has 3 "drives": The 250Mb system (partitioned in Linux oddness), the internal 2Gb flash (soldered in, not removable), and the removable mini-SD. The internal shows up as mmc2 and the external as mmc1. The system can use up to 128Mb of the internal flash for swap-file space, but that's about is as far as system files.
Now, this is stock, but you do have a choice. It appears that people are running boot-loaders and putting alternative OSs in the internal or external flash. It's an open system, how much do you want to play?
it's been answered before, but here it goes: it's like the sd in n800 - it's sdhc compatible. The documentation says 8 gb simply because it was the largest size available at the time of writing. Currently 32gb cards work in the n800 so I suspect when 32 gb minisdhc will be available it will work
miniSD format is dead. It is full SD or microSD now. Nobody puts miniSD slot in new devices anymore and it is unlikely new cards will appear since the market for miniSD is small and one can use microSD with micro to mini adapter. Also for SDXC cards mini variant is no longer included in the standard.

Halleluia! About time someone killed that pathetic format. Too bad I'm stuck using it on my n810 until the unit dies. Hopefully the 900 will have a full sized SD slot again. Of course, I'd lot to see other devices ditch the microsd format too. SD is really all you need. And for anyone who points out size, I point to the fact that, until a few years ago, all devices uses SD, regardless, and they got along just fine.

Any hope of (internal) SDXC using an adapter or the RX-51 using SDXC? This can make these little devices much more future proof.
I understand the SDXC and RX-51 are not released hardware yet.
