I have downloaded a large amount of Openstreet Maps on my memory card
and I use thema without any problem on Navit.

I would want to use Maemo mapper. I have tried to give him a local URLof the
form

file:///path-to-the OSM data

as a new Map repository giving the OSM tiles either in, XML form or .bin file

But nothink is working !

Is there a way to use local map files in Maemo Mapper or is it mandatory to download them from Internet ?

You have to download them. Some of us had a chat at the Maemo Summit last year about creating a local renderer and routing server to use local OSM data and serve it to Maemo Mapper in the same way as it uses online sources, but it hasn't gone anywhere (as my excuse, I've been busy).

If anyone fancies taking this on and pushing it, that would be pretty cool, and I'm certainly willing to give a hand.
