I'm interested in getting an N810 (I'll give the details about why in another thread), but haven't actually seen one in the flesh yet. So, I visited the local Nokia shop in Reading and asked if they had one. I was told they didn't anymore, as it was being discontinued. The suggested replacement was the N97.
This was news to me, although I hadn't been following things very closely, so I did a few searches. Either the guy was telling me something that has not been made public yet, or he was getting confused with the N810 Wimax (but that was a US only device, I think).
Has anyone here heard anything about the plans for the N810?
It's no secret. Nokia's self-styled "pocket computer" is currently the N97 (even though it seems you can't actually buy it in the UK yet), and they aren't selling N810s anymore.
Your choices are to wait for an N97 (which is not a direct competitor to the N810 as far as I am concerned), or to wait for Nokia's next tablet (many months away still), or to buy a second-hand N810, or to buy an N810 from a non-Nokia retailer that still holds stock.

Nokia hasn't announced they're discontinuing production of the N810. That's fairly meaningless though, as Nokia doesn't make announcements of that kind. Indeed, folks who have called Nokia about the production status of various products have found that Nokia doesn't officially discontinue, end-of-life, or otherwise halt any products. Apparently, production volumes are just reduced until they happen to be zero.
Even with the N810 WiMAX Edition, Nokia publicly issued a recall of all unsold stock and publicly dumped WiMAX, but I expect if you call them, they'll still deny discontinuing the product. It's their way.
In the end though, it is likely Nokia is manufacturing few to zero N810s today. The next device will probably be released in the not too distant future, and they likely have things estimated out so there will be little remaining N810 stock in the supply chain when the RX-51 drops.
