I know, but I still hate seeing so many pixels wasted: why treat a gorgeous display like it only had 480x320 pixesl?

"Wasted" is highly subjective. I don't ever take the stylus out of its silo on my N800, and don't particularly appreciate tiny, hard to hit widgets. So, to me, this looks like a large improvement over the Diablo UI.

The problem has more to do with x86 drivers, fine tuning and libraries than pure processor power. Don't take my word, but for instance it looks like Nvidia cards have less (or no) trouble compared to Intel cards. We are looking at this, aiming to offer something better in future SDK releases.
