I installed the LCARS complete theme package on my trusty, (formerly) stable N800 (v5.2008.43-7) - was not as impressed as many here are, so I set my theme back to "Echo" and uninstalled lcars - all the vaious components listed in "Show Installed Applications"
Now my audio is screwed up - garbled and unlistenable. You can hear the music, but is mostly drowned out by distortion and static. Media play is distorted, but FM radio is OK. I ran the Canola clean-up and reinstalled, no help. Most of the UI sounds are OK and back to originals, but the boot-up audio is still LCARS.
Anything else I can try or am I going to have to reflash??
-find the folder on you tablet where is the ''bad boot'' sound file (.wav)
-If you installed LCARS, the application installer rename your originals .wav to .wav.distrub files extensions
_so erase the ''boot.wav'' files
_and just rename the original ''boot.wav.ditrub to original exstension ''boot.wav
Thanks for the feedback. I had found another post that suggested the .distrib files, but they aren't where suggested: /usr/share/sounds
That would fix the wrong sounds at certain times, but I can't see how that would affect the garbled audio everywhere else - It's almost as though an internal "pre-amp" volume setting has been set to 300%, although the final output volume is not all that above normal - just sounds absolutely horrid...
It just seems that this should not have happened by installing a theme.. peraps a bit too much creativity on trying to turn it into a Star Terk PADD??
Probably will do me good to re-flash... maybe this time I'll take notes so I can remmeber how I got everything working so well to my liking!!
I have already installed and uninstalled (can't rememebr the exact order) the "meta" theme from the same folks that did the lcars theme and the NuvoPearl theme.
I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion, however. I'm beginning to think it was a hardware (setting?) issue - maybe connected or maybe not.
I had rebooted serveral times during troubleshooting, but had not completly powered it down and removed the battery.
Upon power back up, all seems to be back to working correctly... I may have even been wrong about boot-up sounds, it was so distorted that it *might* have been the correct sound - not sure I ever rebooted while lcars was installed, so... whatever.
It's working now. I apprecaite the support. Great communities like this add a lot to owning device like the N800...

Glad to hear that sorted itself out. None of our packages should affect sound output in any unpredictable way; lcars-sounds just swaps .wav files using dpkg-divert, so the original sounds should come back on removal. Also note that you can remove the lcars-sounds package while keeping the themes, or install the themes individually (without the sounds package).
