    I own an N800 and promised myself long ago I'll skip the N810 and wait for the next model... especially as it seems I needn't wait too long now.

    Today I saw the price dropped from €300 to €199 on Amazon. I just couldn't resist. It's on its way.

    I didn't want this. Really.... *sigh*

    Help me justify it:
    • Hardware keyboard... I got into the habit of chatting on IRC in the taxi. A hardware keyboard may be nice.
    • Transflective screen... I use it a lot as a media player during train rides and bright sunlight often makes this a bad experience on the N800.
    • It's a little bit smaller than the N800, isn't it? OK...
    • Nokia needs my money in these days
    • My N800's screen has scratches
    • I might want a device to play with (debian, mer, ...) even when the Maemo5 lead device is out.
    • I could keep the N800 in the office and the N810 at home. Both devices are too big to comfortably be carried around daily.

    Anything else I could use as an excuse when people tell my I'm completely mad?

    * USB host is easier
    * you can use the same USB cable you use with your Nokia phone (you do have a Nokia phone, right ?
    * better sound
    * GPS (you don't have to use it, you know, but good for bragging)
    * lock/unlock via slide action and/or light-sensor

    The n810 will run openoffice.org comfortably without wasting screen space with an on-screen keyboard

    better sound is cool (i didn't know), gps may be if i ever get a fix... but being able to use the same usb cable is definitely best on your list.

    which reminds me about the headphone jack: is it the same as on the N800 or the smaller one that I have on my 6110 Navigator (sure I have a Nokia phone )?

    *LOL*

    I knew I brought some of them in my hand luggage when I returned from my summer holidays in Youghal, Ireland. Terrible creatures.

    The n810 jack port is the "normal", medium-sized one, not the small one you find on some nokia phones (and of course not the huge one of some hifi apparatuses).
    You can find cheap adapters normal female to small male (no pun intended :-) if you want to use the same headset both for tablet and phone.

    The colleague behind me talked to a customer when I read this. He had to press mute because of my hysterical laughter...

    Thank you for the info, anyway. I do have the adapter (it came with my Nokia headset), just thought maybe I could finally get rid of it... (come think of it... it's the other way round: the headset is a medium male and has an adapter for small female... I'd have to keep the adapter anyway. Or get a different headset. So it doesn't matter much...)

    Oh, and forgot the (literally) biggest thing:
