Hi,

When i run navit in linux, i am not able to view the default map of Munich. What are the changes that i should do in the navit.xml file?
Please help...

Initially when i was able to load the map,i observed these...
1)The demo works fine when enabled. On the terminal I get a message that says - "Fix the speech tag in navit.xml to let navit say: Turn right."

Does this message appear because the speech synthesizer is not attached?

2)In line no 24 in the navit. xml file, when the parameter ,center, is set to a particular value say 48.118323 N 11.631874 E, the map does not open with this point as center.
3)In line no 24 in the navit.xml file, when the parameter, orientation, is set to 0 (enable condition), there seems to be no visible change in orientation of the map.

4)2 other messages that i get when the navit is run,

a):navigation_itm_new:no street item
b)vehicle_new:invalid type 'gpsd'(Does this appear because no gps is attached?)

5)There seems to be no change in the colours, when the different html values for the corresponding colours, are assingned to various objects

Hi, lets see if I can help...
Default map.. that should work. assuming you left it enabled. Normally I'd not bother as it is much more itneresting to get a map of your own area and configure that.
1) the message to the terminal is the result of an 'echo' statement in the navit.xml file. basically you can use any text-to-speech engine you like that will speak the string it's passed. to enable find the tag in navit.xml with that message. and instead of calling echo, call flyte or some other text-to-speech engine (that you have installed)
2) the map centre needs to be over a valid co-ordinate for a map you have installed and configured. Normally it's not necessary to play with it because with your gps connection established you'll center on where you are, then it will remember where that was.
3) as 2
4) do you have gps configured? gpsd running?
5) not sure which tags you're refering to or what you are trying to achieve.

have you checked out the navit wiki?
http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Main_Page
which also contains a page about navit on internet tablets if you're interested
http://wiki.navit-project.org/index....n770/n800/n810

if you're really struggling many of the developers hang out in the IRC chat channel #navit
and they are very helpful.

Hi dwould,

In the 5th point in my query, I meant that I was just trying to change the colours of the various attributes like river, road, street etc. But there was no change in the colour.

Hi,

When a user is using the map of a country, say UK. But he gives the latitude and longitude of a place not in the UK map, then, I need to produce a pop up window that tells that, whatever lat and long he has given, is not correct. How can I program it is this way? How do I produce this pop up window? Please help..

You may want to file a bug with Navit, or check with the folks working on it in #navit irc. They are pretty helpful. Sounds like that should be a feature of the main program anyway. Perhaps they can add it in.

Hi,

When the navit is run, the map takes a really long time to pop up. It takes about 30 minutes for me to view the map, after the program is run. What do I do about it?

Hi,

Minimum of 1 GB ram is needed for loading these maps faster.
