Whenever I want to jot anything down, I just use the built in Notes app. It's quick to use, and has a few basic formatting options. Anything else... I wait a minute for OpenOffice to open in Debian.

You can try Maemo WordPy. But it's more for writing a blog that gets published to WordPress or Blogger.

You can also install PHP/MySQL and Wordpress right on your tablet if you're feeling adventurous.

Even easier, try liqbase. It will chronologically story your writing, drawings, and photos. The downside is that it doesn't currently support text recognition, so you won't be able to copy your writing to anywhere else.

Xournal, like liqbase, does not have text recognition, though, so if you need your journaling to go somewhere else afterwards, you're outta luck with these options.

i use liqbase as a diary (as tim mentioned, its fully chronological)

liqbase is under active development and includes the possibility of examining everything you have done since it has a complete graffiti wall stream of everything you take a note of.

theres no filenames to think about and nothing is overwritten and you just write and save/close and its done.

i have upwards of 2000 sketches now

You can install QuickClip and it could be used as a Diary app. it can place a time/date stamp on each entry, uses the built in notes app, runs from the status bar, and opens up quickly. even kinetic scrolling.

I don't journal, but I could easily use it to.

Apart from knowing the approximate (or relative) date that you did something, how in liqbase do you find something you entered there? Also, you're still limited to a single screenful per entry, no?
