I will really have to wait and see how this thing shakes out. But I just purchased my N800 and its just as ugly in person. I loved my 770 and I can see this will take some time to grow on me.

HATE!!!!
I hate the fact that they covered up the USB port, if you want to use USB devices, I think that whole stand will need to come off. Hopefully someone will offer an aftermarket case soon (hopefully with a whole for USB after stand is removed)

Speaking of the stand, what a flimsy piece of garbage that is.

The fact that I will now have to wait for new software again, hopefully Nokia's garbage has not scared to many developers off. Gnuite's rant is looking quite upset, and that is the single best app that has been created for maemo to date. (if you disagree, I dont care its my opinion)

LOVE!!! (LIKE, LOVE WILL TAKE SOME TIME)
For starters web cam. Secondly the DS and MMC slots offer lots of compatability and storage space. CPU and Memory are upgraded. I played both a youtube video and a google video, seems a bit choppy to me, but it does play.


First impressions:
I would sacrifice the camera functionality in a heartbeat, for OS compatability and the 770 form factor.

I love:

-the overall design. I think it's fine art. Significant improvement.
-the stand. It's actually very sturdy, well-designed, and does NOT have to come off to access the USB port ( penguinbait).
-the new battery cover.
-the increased memory capacity and SD card format
-dual speakers.
-metal faceplate.

I hate:

-the buttons. Ack.
-volume doesn't quite get high enough without additional amplified speakers.
-no slide-out keyboard.

Just to be fair/clear , the stand does not have to come off to use USB. It just has to be open, which means if its in your pocket and you want to have it wired to other USB devices, you will either have to have the stand open or remove it.

I really can't believe you think the stand is sturdy, dont get me wrong, its sturdy enough to hold up the n800 or 770, but anything that bends and bows with a little pressure applied is not sturdy.

Did you use your 770 without a cover? Maybe thats why some people like it and some, not so enthused. I used mine always with the cover and I liked the solid feeling it had.

I hate the crappy sunglass sleeve that it comes with. Should have had at least a pouch with a drawstring like the 770.

Good point about the USB port; I'm sure the current solution was a compromise.

The stand is extremely sturdy for what it needs to do, and as one who was a product designer for years, has had his hands on hundreds of these, and has used one for months, I feel I'm in a good position to attest to it. The feel as it clicks into position is very reassuring... to me anyway. I don't sweat the flexibility along its length; when used as directed, that's a nonfactor IMO.

I use my 770 with and without the cover. I bought a little carry case for it that it lives in. I actually don't like the old slip cover and much prefer to find my own solutions for that issue. The $6 case I picked up at compusa.com for the N800 is perfect for me.

I just picked mine up from the Nokia store here in Manhattan.

My first impression is very good.

The original was a good unit, this improves upon it.

Show the love, guys. That Nokia is this committed (so far) to this platform is good for our community.

The fact that it has the VKB laser keyboard driver (or at least the Bluetooth driver) already bundled in the base build is great. Works fine.

New stuff loved:
Battery runtime estimate, click the battery status icon.. W00p!
Network connect shows signal strength when status icon clicked.

Stuff hated so far:
External SD card port does not offer "push-to-eject." Use care when inserting a mini-SD card in an adapter, else you'll have to work a bit to fish out the adapter tray after you pull the mini card from it.

Fullscreen and +/- buttons along the top could be a bit larger and further apart.
