Hi,

I have had the 810 for a couple weeks now. 3 times now the device has stopped getting internet connectivity. I can connect to any WiFi router I try. But when I open a browser it fails to load a page, email won't work and neither will the VPN client or SSH connection.

I have called Nokia support and all they have me do is Flash the device. That solves the issue but then a few days later it stops working again.

This problem started after I hooked up the device to my PC and ran it against the software update application. Once the app indicated that I had the most recent software I cancel the program leaving the device in update mode and connected to my PC. I formal removed the USB device from the system tray then rebooted the N810. After this is the first time I noticed the problem. So I ended up flashing the device anyway and as I stated before it worked fine for a couple days before crapping out. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Regards
JB

What happens if you disconnect from your connection and then reconnect. I occasionally get some connection problems and stopping and starting the connection seems to fix the problem.

Just tried it; Doesn't help. I tried to update the weather app first before opening the browser and it failed. Then I tried the browser which also failed to connect. Tied rebooting several times. I think I will try uninstalling some of the apps and see If I can score that way.

This might be a bit late, but I had exactly the same problem today. And it turns out the guilty application is vpnc.

It creates a new /etc/resolv.conf file that screws up your DNS in the tablet. Solution is to delete that file from the terminal (you should probably be root). I rebooted after that and all was fine.

Once back to normal you can probably create an empty file in that /etc/resolv.conf so that vpnc doesn't leave it there all the time.

I found it out from here...

While it may work to delete the resolv.conf file in this context. That's kinda an important file and may cause issues with other things.

BUT for better or worse, the file is auto-generated by various network programs.

For example on my laptop, NetworkManager oftens wipes my file and inputs the DNS information it gets from my ISP.

Additionally I find that I often have to append nameservers to my /etc/resolv.conf file on my tablet. Sometimes I need to append the IP of the "gateway" (router) and/or a DNS server (in a pinch I use openDNS's 4.2.2.2)
