I just purchased an N810 off of amazon and the first thing i did was upgrade it to the newest OS release, now of course in a fit of impatience i didnt fully charge it, now im noticing the battery life isnt very good at all not even lasting 10 hours in standby with wifi on, and it will fully charge from dead in less than an hour. In not fully charging it that first time will it now assume that that level it was at is a full charge? Is there anyway to reset this?

There should not be memory in the NIT that "remember" the full charge level.

If the tablet charges to full in about an hour from empty that appear way too short. My tablet takes at least 2 hours to charge from empty to full. Therefore it seems that the battery in your tablet may have reduced capacity. Any way to try another battery?

How long is the standy time without WiFi on? The N810 should last at least 10 days in standby if you do not have WiFi on. If you get anywhere near that figure without WiFi then it seem your WiFi router doesn't support the WiFi power saving mode... and drains the tablet battery faster than usual.

New or used? From Amazon itself or from the marketplace? I ask because if your N810 is used, there's a chance you may have received an eBay, "Hong Kong special", knock off battery with it. Folks in the fora who have bought cheap batteries from eBay have reported similar battery performance.

ColonelSplendid, as the others have said, modern Lithium-based batteries don't have a "memory" effect. You can charge a Lithium battery whenever you like, however full it is.

But if you're using an unofficial battery then its performance may be far, far worse than an official battery.

Also, you might have a genuine but broken battery, which would still have to be replaced.

If you can't get any joy from your current battery, and if switching off Wi-fi doesn't help, I would suggest buying a genuine replacement straight from Nokia or from a reputable electronics shop (don't use ebay beacuse it's full of fakes).

The N810 uses the Nokia BP-4L battery, you should be able to buy one for about 30 euros or so.

I'm guessing you have a bum battery.

What happen if the 'empty' is NOT empty?
I suspect the battery is fine.

calculating charge time left with lith-ion batteries is often more an art then a science. I would run the device until it turns off, charge it up fully so the reported capacity is correct. Then see how fast the battery discharges. With wifi on and the screen off you should get somewhere between 0.3 and 0.7% per hour. I use the battery-status command to bring a bit more qualitative data to the process. You can find it here: http://nitapps.com
