I'm thinking about getting an n810 but I have a few questions/concerns.

I'm worried that with a 400mhz processor and 128mb ram trying to loading full web pages plus whatever is going on in the background will equal being a pretty slow device. Any answer/experience on this front?

I would also like to hear some opinions and general experiences with these devices. Maybe also any quirks or anything to beware of, or whatever just comes to mind. Thanks.

I was also wondering. Is there a difference between the WiMax version and the regular N810 other than the support for WiMax? Is it more worth it to have Wimax?

In my opinion, the regular browser is pretty slow for loading pages with a lot of content. If you install Tear, the webkit based browser, browsing is MUCH faster, it can do most websites incredibly fast, similar to what you're use to on a laptop or desktop

Wimax is only useful if you have wimax in your area..which is similar to wifi but bigger range but not as popular and can't be found everywhere. depends where you live

Personally I think for the price it's pretty good, has a touch screen, good for online chat, online browsing, reading email reading rss feeds etc, hence the "internet tablet". Music and videos are pretty good as well, although it can be laggy if theres too much content for it to load.

I think i'd rather have a tablet PC than a n800 though

Most of us who use this forum are already convinced that our N800's and N810's have greatly enhanced our lives. I haven't used my laptop in months. I use my N800 every day for about 16 hours. It goes with me everywhere. I do everything with it. At this point in time, however, I would not buy an N810 to replace my Garmin Nuvi 680 GPS receiver.

I know that most people are already convinced. That is why I'm asking here. I don't really want to hear everything bad about it. I want to hear everything good about it. Most frankly I want to hear that is is usable. Being that a n810 is so cheap ($230) I'll probably buy one of these, not really to replace my garmin though.

OK, starting with everything good about the N810. It has a display that is readable outdoors. It comes with Skype which alows you to talk or chat free to any other computer throughout the world. You can download and install over 360 free applications. With my N800 I stay connected to the internet through WiFi for 8 hours on one battery charge. You can store dozens of full length movies on SD memory card. You can view your Word documents and Excel spread sheets. You can install a full function scientific calculator. You can chat with your buddies at Yahoo, Google and several other groups. Can install an excellent YouTube app called mYTube. Through bluetooth connection can upload videos taking on your cell phone directly to your YouTube account. You can install a great mapping app called Maemo Mapper that allows you to bring in traffic or weather layers. Whoops! Sorry, I gotta go, I got a Skype call.

Continueing - I really like the weather layer for three reasons. First, you can zoom way in to just your neighborhood, second, you can set it to give you 1 minute udates (not the usual 15 minute updates like on you desktop), and third, the satellite weather is so sensitive that I detected a large brush fire in the next town over (no kidding, I saved a screen shot).

UPDATE: I got my n810 and I love it with the following two exceptions both relating to the gps. 1. detection time and 2. decent navigation software. Other than that, I love this device.

By the way, what app do you use to view word and excwl documents.
