Hello all,
I've just joined this site, but I've been lurking around for a while, trying to figure out a few things about the N810 and finally I decided to join and say hello and thanks for all the help contained in the forums, wiki, etc.

I’ve recently bought the N810 and after being a bit disappointed with my first impression (as I thought that I would be) I am more than happy after installing a couple of things.
Installed and tested:
- Maemo Mapper + AGPS (it works quite nicely)
- cbr reader for Maemo (Thanks to the author of this)
- Alternative Weather applet (very handy where I live)
- Gizmo account to be able to use the camera while calling
- NumptyPhysics
- pdf reader (I was impressed on how it handled a 70 MB file without problems, any reason to change to evince?)

To install:
- Media player (Don’t know if I should choose Mplayer or Canola2)
- GPE calendar or other (I’m having issues understanding how I can synchronize it with my Oracle calendar, if anybody knows, please let me know)
- Openssh and VNC (to be able to control and wake up my home PC)
- Sonata (to control the mp3s in my main pc)
- Personal Menu

To change:
- Original screen protector for something nicer!

Anything else that I should consider?

Cheers

Welcome to itt, you'll like this community. It's by far the best accessory for the nits, no BS.

Advanced Backlight is very good to have; Xournal is super useful for taking down quick notes; FBReader only lacks autoscroll to be perfect, try it for comparison; Mplayer does a lot that the default player doesn't do, (I'd call it one of my necessary programs. Try that also for comparison.); Panucci is really something else for podcast listening, certainly a "must" for me; myTube if you view Youtube at all, it solves almost all problems in .flv/ youtube viewing for the nits, and couldn't be much better. Tear has a good following on itt, but it's about the same as the default browser for me.

Joe

Edit, how could I forget http://tabletschool.blogspot.com/, very highly recommended.

Welcome, GunBalina. I would suggest that you also install mytube for YouTube videos. I personally prefer mplayer over Canola. Also, Dbus switcher will allow you to associate file extensions to your installed applications.

Sorry for the delay in answering! A bit too much work combined with traveling made it a bit hard to come here!
Thanks for the tips and the welcoming! I'm currently using my n810 everyday including to take some fast notes when I need it! This thing is amazing!
have fun!

@GunBalina

Welcome!

Liqbase - fun quick way to jot down notes and lots more "fun" stuff

bluemeamo - control bluetooth device "X" from your Nx00

Tear - even if you don't find it faster than the included browser(microb), the scrolling is awesome

theremin (sp?) - a fun little musical instrument that can keep my 3yr old happy for more than 5 minutes

Flipclock - brings back memories of the heathkit / radio shack clock my dad built for me.

Personal Launcher- home screen applet from the maker of personal menu

Just wanted to add that Canola and MediaBox both need Mplayer to be fully functional. Mplayer is just a backend, the other two organize your library.

Notecase for hierarchical notetaking - will run and edit your files on Linux, Windows and Mac desktop, too.
Maemopad+ also for notetaking, but it allows sketching too.
Easy Debian if you want your desktop apps on your tablet (i.e. openoffice.org suite or abiword, or gimp, and the whole debian codebase).
