It's only happened once so far, but I figure I'll get an early jump on troubleshooting.

Today, out of nowhere, with roughly ~50% of a charge left in the battery, my *3 month old* N810 shut down.

I didn't see it happen, as I had set it down with wifi disconnected, left to idle.

Once I realized it was off, I powered it back on and it was fine. As of writing this, (hours later) it's still okay.

The only apps I have running during idle are the load-applet and the default mail client (which I suppose isn't doing anything when the wifi is off...). The only thing that's changed was that I set up rotation today. Is that a known issue?

Has anybody experienced this? I've been playing with it since I got it, and haven't experienced any problems with it shutting down or any kind of battery life issues (10 days / 7 Hours listed after a full charge).

Thanks all.

EDIT /// Also, running Personal Menu and Advanced Backlight (for rotation), both of which I installed today. Issues?

ok, it happened again last night..
assuming it is due to advanced backlight/kernel mod..
reflashing tonight.

if it happens with the official diablo flash, then i'll do all that logging.

///EDIT

did the logging, see my next post

This is happening when you're off the mains?
I've been having this issue for a few weeks now only when off the mains.
I hit the screen. No response. It had shut down. I think it's battery related in that it's about to do something and pulls too much charge from the battery and causes a "brownout" that shuts down the tablet. I'm going to get a replacement battery and see if it helps.

Rotation have been used for a long time, it can't be the culprit. Maybe you have a faulty SD card.

Is the battery loose? When I got my N810, the battery was kind of loose and would sometimes disconnect, causing this.

If you hear something loose inside your device when you shake it, this could be the problem. I solved it by tapeing some electrical take onto the end of the battery until it fit snugly and didn't rattle when I shook my N810.

I'm not sure what you mean by "off the mains"...

Nope, battery is good. When I turn it back on, the battery is just as charged as it was the last time i used it. Not loose sounding or anything....

MicroSD card is Kingston. Should be good, right?
This never happened before I did rotation, so I have a hard time ruling it out.

///EDIT

Oooh, ok, I guess I'm not as lazy as I thought i was... [the following according to the reporting boot issues wiki page]

1. i did cat /proc/bootreason

Code:
    32wd_to
which means

Watchdog reset - something was consuming too much CPU causing a watchdog reset, or kernel crashed

2. tried cat /var/lib/dsme/stats/lifeguard_resets, but "no such file or directory"

3. i made core-dumps dir on internal flash (for next time i suppose)

so... could be the new kernel???

Well, it hasn't shut down in 4 days (since I flashed, installed NITdroid, then reflashed again.)

The only thing different now than from before is that I didn't reinstall rotation.

That being said, and b/c of the error code i described in the post above, I'm chalking it up to the kernel mod from rotation.

(Then again, what do I know? )
