Indeed, SmartQ 5 seems not to be a suitable device for me, since running Skype is the single most important thing to do with one of these devices. I only hope Skype video call is made possible on N8x0 in the future...
It won't. At least, it will be very surprising if it ever will.
i'm in the search for replacing my dying N800 screen. can the smartq 5 run meamo mapper? this is one of the reasons why i got the N800 for the GPS capabilities.
So I have MER v14 running on my Q7. and I have the wireless drivers installed, I can see all the networks...but has anyone figured out why the WPA2 networks are greyd out and can't connect to them?

hi
i just bought a q7 and immediately had problems
the charging is acting up will not charge
and i had problems loading streamtuner and had to reflash with version 4
I just bought a smartq7. I wanted to install mer on the SD card so i took the rootfs of 0.15 version and unrared to an ext3 partition on SD card. but i see boot folder has no kernel, so I am thinking what I did was totally foolish. I do not want to flash mer, I want boot option. I made changes in the menu.lst of version 4.0 smartq firmware.
I see all the installation instructions for smartq are for flashing only. Can anyone be kind enough to please post installation guide(step by step would be nice)
My SmartQ 7 arrived a week ago. It functions fine, sorry to those who are having issues.
It is seriously in need of optimisation though and it is good to see that SmartQ are affording the Mer team positive assistance. At least that is what it looks like from postings such as "SmartDevices providing up to date kernel sources for us" http://n2.nabble.com/Mer-Chatter-f2732813.html
I haven't tried Mer yet, just biding time to see how things shape up. How much specific feedback would the Mer team like I wonder?
I am not sure if I should wait on SmartQ firmware v5.0 or not. The recent V4.0 didn't seem to do enough. Screen performance is pretty poor on mine, touch sensitivity is very imprecise and sluggish and generally quite frustrating. To the extent that it is not encouraging me to use it.
The device itself has a reassuring solid build quality, apart from the flimsy prop stand that is. Compared to the N800 it is huge and heavy. Not to mention it is a bargain at $189.
