Hi, is there a way to use maemo mapper without the need to be connected to internet?

I don't really see how I can use it as GPS if I need to have internet to download maps and to download the route or POI that I'm looking for !!

I hope, I'm missing something. If not, could you advise me with an other software to use the GPS (except the Nokia map application which is not free)

    Thank you for the help.

While it's a limitation most users get around it by downloading what they need in advance i.e they download the maps and routes they need before they travel.

If you need to adjust your route on the hoof you'll need to be able to tether to your phone or will just need to use another gps option like tomtom or garmin.

Sorry if this has been asked but I tried loading some GPX route (directions) files from Bing (formerly Live Maps), was able to save it and transfer it... well no route shows. I also tried http://gpx.geotags.com/ for Google Maps but no route shows, and I can't get Google Maps to download (I prefer Bing anyway...), seems their URL is always changing in some way?

I got google maps to download. The only one that keeps changing is the satellite images. They're hording those like dragon gold.

Lord Raiden, did you have to re-create the Google Maps (regular not satellite) database? I've never been able to get it to work with an existing sqlite database.

I started a fresh database and built it on the tablet over a 2 day period, and when it was done it worked. Someone had posted a script here that supposedly built the necessary database, but everytime I loaded it into maemo mapper, it complained that it was invalid. I got someone looking into that for me, so that little problem should get fixed soon.

Can anyone help me with a database problem in Maemo mapper? I posted my problem in this thread here. In short, Maemo Mapper is saving everything in gdbm instead of sqlite3 like it should, and it keeps saying that it doesn't recognize sqlite3 formated databases.

Is there a download limit for the maps. I am using VE hybrid and I've got so far 2gb of maps on my sd card. I have plenty of room for more but, I can't seem to download any more maps and Maemo Mapper keep crashing each time I try to.

If MM is storing the files as GDBM (the default format), you're limited to 2gb of storage. If you're using SQlite3, you can fill it up as much as you like.

Looking at your other thread, I guess I'm stuck at 2gb for now. And I don't want to delete my repositories and have to download all these maps again. It took me forever to get most of the streets I wanted.
