Just start a new repository, make sure it's in SQlite format and named differently. Then just download the maps as you please or whenever. This enables you to still use the old repo (just switch back to it.. name the new one like Google Maps 2) while getting the new one. Eventually your new one will catch up to the old one and you can delete the old one.

Do I have to use google maps to be able to use the gpx files for directions from gnuite website? Since I've had problems downloading google maps a while back, I've become very content with VE hybrid maps but, I can't seem able to open those gpx files I've created on my laptop and transferred to n810.

No you shouldn't have to. I've used them with Yahoo maps and it should work with other maps too.

Yeah, as Laughing Man said, just use your existing one while you build another one alongside it. What I am doing is building a massive new database in sqlite format using this script which is running right now on my utility server and building my DB for me off the tablet.

For some reason maemo-mapper was saving the maps as the old format, so I created the new as you suggested and it gave me the option to change the format. Now I am in the process of downloading zoom level 12 for the entire earth, about 2.5gb, and the device been at it all night and still going. Its not even at half yet. I wish I could do this on my laptop and then just copy the data over at a time like this.

I quit at half way, well 1gb, had to unplug the battery. Man, downloading in sqlite take a long time but, hey as long as I can download all the maps I can hold onto my card I ain't complaining.

Frz, use the download script I linked. That way you don't need to let your tablet do any of the work. Just start it up and let it run. I've pulled down some 4 million tiles already and it's still going. I'm doing the zoom levels for the entire US from 16 down to 8, with the Michigan/Ohio area zoomed down to 6 since that's the primary area I travel in. It took me a couple weeks to get it all (kept having to restart the script because of my crappy internet connection causing the script to repeatedly bomb out) but I finally got it all and have been testing it in stages as I went, and so far, so good.

this script works right on the tablet? And does it work for maps other than google. I am using the VE hybrid. I've already downloaded a lot too, zoom level for the entire world from 20 to 14. The 2.5gb that Iwas downloading was for zoom level 12 that I got half of. The lower levels will require a lot more space that I don't have. So for those I will just get the areas that I frequently travel.

lol. The script is for use on your PC to build maps, not your tablet. You build the map file on your PC using the script and then transfer the completed database to your tablet. It's also currently only for Google street, although it shouldn't take much to hack it for other uses and other repositories. As for the zoom levels, I've just found it best to do the even numbered zooms only. For one it's a lot less zoom levels to download, and two, unless you have a need for any zoom level higher than 16 or lower than 6, you should only need 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, and 6. The only time I've found that 2 and 4 come in handy is if you're adding a lot of POI's, but otherwise under practical driving use, they're really not that handy and take up a ton of space for something you really won't use that often.

yeah 6 is best for driving but, I do like having my close ups when walking and feel a little bit more gpsish at 4 and 2.

Question, don't anyone else find Maemo-mapper a bit slow? Is it possible to make it a bit faster, especially for browsing maps? When I am browsing the maps that I've already downloaded, it still takes a little bit of time to move to the next area, sometimes it just stalls for a minute or two at a black screen.
