Why do you think Apple didn't enable full multi-tasking for a computer dressed up as a phone? Did they do it just because? I'm guessing they're rewriting Darwin's scheduler as we speak to do their best at controlling an unknown rogue process. If perception is king, then UI hiccups and freezing have to be minimized or eliminated. Under certain conditions, I can switch applications faster on my iPod touch than I can on my n8x0. And I would guess the standard deviation time delta of app switching on the touch is smaller than on the n8x0.

@ysss
No one argues that Apple doesn't think that they know what's best for us.

I'd say you're wrong. I'm an iPhone owner, but I'm not an iPhone fanatic because there's a lot of room to improve the platform and some decisions make no sense to me.
And I'm not the only person. The whole copy/paste/cut debacle was enough to set some people off.
And I'm not the kind to fall into lockstep with Nokia because their decisions make less sense to me.

I said Apple thinks they know what's best for us. I didn't say Apple doesn't listen. There can be a difference between confidence and arrogance. You somewhat argued this earlier, and I agree.
I'm biased here. 3.0 was available soon after I made my purchase. But I could spew some bullsh*t about this topic if need be.
I'm a big multi-tasker, I created my own multi-tabbed browser wrapper because I was unsatisfied with both microb and tear in regards to my browsing habits. But UI response under heavy load is mostly under the control of the kernel, OS and window manager. This is where Apple's and Nokia's decisions fall under my microscope. Like I think ysss touched upon, I'll take good UI response over most everything else. Walk, then run.

Incorrect. It is being offered at $400..$500 here, and it is still popular. No contracts.

I've never seen a 5800 outside of the units sent to my partner to test.
