The most common control key sequences are all RIGHT thumb keys.
I think you mean LEFT :-)

Also: with no CHR key, how is one supposed enter accents/diacriticals or switch languages? I can't believe this is only supposed to support ASCII input plus a couple of currency symbols.

    (end of rant)
I know a rhetorical question when I see one, but I answer them anyway.

If the Ctrl key would act like the Fn or Shift key, it wouldn't be a problem, would it? First press Ctrl, then press C - with a single thumb if you so like.

No, it doesn't work today, but that should be fixable in software.

What worries me more is the decrease in keys and characters, most notably the Chr key, as mentioned by LMA. 40 keys on my N810, 34 on the Rover - not counting the arrow keys.

Nokia tend to be Finnish, and here in Scandinavia, as well as in Germany, we require the use of a few more characters than the ones present in this keyboard. My N810 has the letters æ (ä), ø (ö) and å. Ø and Å is placed to the right of the M. Rover - not enough keys. They will have to be traded into the Sym charset. Which three characters would I have to give up? $, £ and €?

And other people may miss the chance to create an é or ü, which today is accessible through chr.

They already removed < and >, that I do use.

I am really disturbed by the lack of the Chr key.

On a side note, the keyboard doesn't look like it's a lot better than the current one. I get an awful lot of double keypresses on the N810, and my fingers are not that big. It's not a good keyboard.

On another side note, I guess the Chr key functionality can be accessed through an onscreen button, but that would steal real estate.

True, but see bug 2856 (and note the version field).

After looking at the photos again it seems it may have been replaced by FN+CTRL, but that would seem to only cover one of its current functions (the "pop up a selection box of characters on the screen" one). Cycling through various accented versions of a letter would at best be very cumbersome and language switching seems impossible (please don't suggest SHIFT+FN+CTRL!)

Yeah, good luck asking a bug reporter to produce debug output with that one... Or editing HTML/XML? I thought WRTs were supposed to be a big deal for Nokia.

Well, as of Fremantle beta 2 we haven't even seen hints of on-screen input methods yet apart from a few "foo has been dropped" bombshells, so who knows...

I agree with you that I did not expect any thanks on that post... But it is readers' choice after all? Maybe I made someone smile/laugh, and that's why?

I agree that "thanks" is the wrong thing to hit for a funny post, but people do it... "thanks" should be for informative posts.

We need a "haha" button, or a "lol" button, so when people think a post is funny, they don't hit "thanks".

    Just click "Remove Your Thanks".

Nah, thanks server a useful purpose (keeping noise/me-too posts down) and karma is overrated anwyay. Let's not start worrying "OMG! If I thank this person he might become eligible to stand for council one day!" please :-)
