I am looking at recording a Windows Media Player video stream (since the site it's coming from doesn't support linux devices), and then converting it to a file that I can view on the n800 from an SD card. What's the best way to do this, as it's all a bit new for me. It would appear that an hour-long file is going to be GIGANTIC (less than a minute was a 16MB file)... what's the best way to view this .WMV file on the n800??? Is there a better (more compressed) format? Maybe convert it to a smaller bitrate? I'm a beginner so go gentle on me!!! It looks like the whole procedure may take a looong time too!

Many thanks!

Install mplayer, mencoder and the various codecs on your "desktop", then use 770-encode.pl to convert to an AVI playable on the n800.

Thanks for that... afraid I didn't understand half of it. I assume I can get mplayer from various sources... but the other bits you mentioned??? Sorry, I'm a bit of a newbee, i'm not totally useless, but I may need a bit of hand-holding on this one!
