I was at a friend's house showing off my N800, which included a Gizmo demo. Worked great. After a bit of additional use (audio streaming and surfing) the battery dropped down maybe one bar. I put the device away in my pocket and went home. I had to run a couple of errands before getting home, so didn't pull it out for about an hour. When I looked at it, the battery had almost completely depleted!
Since I was out and about, I wasn't connected to any networks, so I assume it was cotinuously looking to connect to a network the whole time since Gizmo was still running...which would understandably deplete the battery. But I wouldn't have expected it to run it down a good 70% within an hour! I realized I hadn't shut the unit down manually...which means the screen was probably being tapped intermittently while in my coat pocket and thus kept the unit from sleeping. However, I don't think it went to sleep after I got home and took it out of my pocket, either, so it's also possible Gizmo itself prevents the unit from sleeping. Anyone know if this is the case?
In general, the battery life has been pretty good. I've been getting a good 3.5 to 4 hours of continuous use, but last night it was more like 2. I guess the moral of the story is...make sure you put the N800 to sleep if you're running Gizmo!
The inability to quickly disable the screen AND wireless have been logged as bugs/enhancements for Nokia (bug #943 and #959) - unfortunately Nokia take the view the N800 should be always connected, which would be nice, if only life made that possible on the planet where I live.
