If it's the "usual" type of authentication, i.e. that whatever URL you start with it'll redirect to a specific https: page where you enter your credentials, then it should work (I did this the other day, at the public library). However, if the authentication is done through a Java applet then it won't work. No java. (Which, incidentally, prevents me from getting through the authentication phase with my netbank.)

Holy smokes man..! This is excellent news. Installed without a hitch on my N800, but no java still. Does it need the minimo browser, or is it for the 770 opera only (not n800 opera)? It doesn't show up in the plugin list for opera (which doesn't seem to have a way of scan for new plugins either)
I'm just in the process of ordering a n800 but wanted to check about wifi connectivity to a Hotspot in a hotel. I particularly interested in tmobile in the uk as i have an unlimited year pass so use it 3 to 4 times a week. I'm not sure if the browser authentication would work ok with the n800, it works on a pocketpc so i would hope so.
Thanks
Chris
