I have face the same problem too, but it's a little different. When i executed 'af-sb-init.sh start', it failed. I learn from somewhere that it occured because of lack of nokia-binaries. But when i tried to install nokia-binaries, it turned out to be more complicated, as below.
It seems that i have miss lots of packages or libs. When i tried to install the missing list, it needed more dependencies again.
How to fix it?

Are you doing the installation inside the scratchbox?
If not, do "/scratchbox/login" (Assuming /scratchbox is where scratchbox is at)
Then do:
apt-get update
fakeroot apt-get install nokia-binaries

My test application works well after i login to scratchbox, though nokia-binaries installation still failed.(Error messages were the same as i left before).
In the process of installing maemo-SDK, i have indeed selected the option to install nokia-binaries as well. So it may be the reason why my test can work now. If nokia-binaries has been install, it is confusing that it prompted me error messages instead of inform messages.
Anyway, i am glad to have stepped forward. I can know more about it as i am going through the development.

You need to do a "sb-menu" and switch to the fremantle arm target. Then:
1. add your fremantle url to the sources.list.
2. run a apt-get update
3. run fakeroot apt-get install nokia-binaries.
Then use sb-menu again and switch to the fremantle x86 target and do the same steps again.
