It is a research project so not anywhere near final hardware; just a proof of concept:

Running on a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet - not the planned launch platform for the tech - the display (pictured, but obviously not captured by the camera) offers rudimentary 3D on a handheld device.
IOW some good use of N810WME batches

I saw N810 with 3D screen live in May (actually got to hold it for about half a minute while it was playing a video ) and to my understanding Nokia has been showing them publicly for at least couple of years now.
I'm pretty sure that's just a research project and they're still nowhere near any real devices (even though there wasn't any big problems with the unit I saw). The technology, content, etc. just aren't ready for consumers yet.

Edit. Of course, there's a very slight chance of me being wrong. My first mistake must happen at some point!

Ovi SDK was the big announcement today: cross-platform native(ish)-performance apps using HTML, CSS, JavaScript with a large rich set of libraries.

The first big API (apart from UI standards, micro-sites etc.) is maps making it easy to integrate free maps, navigation etc. into your app.

Does the Ovi SDK have Maemo as one of the target platforms?

Yeah, they said so in the presentation. Symbian and Maemo.

That makes sense... but I sure wish they would have done more to fix the many technical issues prior to announcing an SDK...

Judging by Eldar's ability to procure hands on with proto's very early, I wouldn't be too surprised if Nokia had a 3D s60 or maemo OS running on something or the other. That would definitely be a huge wow and I could see this as something that wouldn't be released or even shown in public until it was close to ready.

Over the past several years, the term "beta" has lost all original meaning.

SproutCore
Palm webOS
Google Web Framework
Ovi

The writing is on the wall for native coded apps in terms of general application use *IF* the problem of bandwidth and security could be approiately addressed.

I like HTML5
