Trying to install Maemo SDK+ on debian etch.

Upon running "aptitude update", this is the output:
    Code:
W: Couldn't stat source package list http://maemo-sdk.garage.maemo.org debian-etch/free Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/maemo-sdk.garage.maemo.org_download_host_dists_debian-etch_free_binary-amd64_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
The process I'm following is documented here: http://maemo-sdk.garage.maemo.org/install-debian.html

Are you running it on a 64bit machine? AFAIK amd64 is not supported for debian etch.

Yeah, I'm running debian etch with some backports, and an upgraded amd64 kernel.

Is there a virtualbox image available somewhere that simply contains the 32 bit debian platform, and has maemo sdk+ installed?

http://maemovmware.garage.maemo.org/ is a virtualbox compatible image.

    Thanks.

It doesn't appear to have scratchbox2 and Qt. So I may be tempted to build an image myself, starting with a 32 bit version of debian. If that turns into a project in itself, I'll go for the image you posted.

My project http://vpc-sdk.garage.maemo.org is geared towards QT. However it is a Virtual PC image (For Windows developers), so that doesn't do you any good. (Which is why I didn't mention it earlier)

In my project I'm only using Scratchbox 1 (since it is officially the one supported). But if you are planning on making a image on VirtualBox/VMWare feel free to pull all the scripts I have from SVN and I would venture 99% of it should work without you having to change anything and it should allow you to build a image very (very) quickly. With Scratchbox 1, full SDK, QT in both the scratchbox and QT Creator in the VM. The project originally started out on a Debian (Lenny) image; but it proved to be unstable under a VM -- so I switched to Ubuntu (Jaunty) which has been totally stable (Go figure, I would have thought Debian would have been stable).

    The scripts should be _mostly_ platform agnostic. Two things that are Ubuntu (Jaunty) specific;
1.. I do know that giplet is not in the debian repository and it is what I use to show the vm's ip address on the title bar -- so it isn't critical
    2. I add an additional repository to get a fixed XServer/Xephyr since the Xserver in Jaunty is broken for Maemo development . Debian (Lenny) was not broken in this way; so you do not need the additional repository.

    Nathan.

I got Maemo SDK+ working in a chrooted 32-bit environment that runs on top of an AMD64 kernel. I've started the following how-to wiki for anyone going down this path:

    http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_SDK%2B_i...an_%28AMD64%29

I focused my effort in getting all the steps down, and in the correct sequence, with a clear indication of what command is run as user or root and on what environment. I did not take time to give detail on what each step is actually doing -- anyone feel free to fill that in and make it more comprehensive.
