is there a way to avoid running X? I want to save memory and I can live with a command line environment. Can anyone suggest some solution?

Hmm, I am not aware of one.

Second I'm not sure what input methods would be available. Touchscreen would not work.

just do something like "killall -9 X" ?

Which tablet do you have?
If you have the N810 then should be able to rig something.

EDIT: beaten to it. That's what I get for loading tabs and then making a sandwich and coming back without reloading

Just played to much with my n800 recently ha ha ha

Of course keyboard should work. Maybe even a bluetooth / usb keyboard with n800 could work.

X doesn't really use much resources. You may want to explore getting rid of some other stuff (daemons?) first.

Yes, I have N810. Is there any support for console mode?

Are you wanting to be able to boot your N810 into the equivalent of "init 3" ?

If so, no, it won't do that without much hackery dackery doo.
