Installing from the repository will pull in dependencies; if you download the packages and install them manually, you need to do this step yourself.

As for fixing those bugs, it's a bit slow going right now because I started a new job this month, and then there's nanowrimo, but I'm still working on it.

Yes. I am assuming there is a limit to the complexity (read: "screwed-upness") of the document Abiword can handle, but long documents (10 pages sofar) and even *.doc files created by OpenOffice.org seem to be no problem.

I'd like to create really screwed-uppety Word documents, but I don't happen to have any Word here (I do have 2.0 version on the ROM card of my HP Omnibook 425, but I haven't booted that one in over four years, so...)

I'm just wondering, what's wrong with getting AbiWord 2.4.6 (newer version) from:

Repository: http://www.abisource.com/downloads/apt/
Distribution: mistral
Components: user

It works just fine for me...

The package that you refer to didn't exist when this thread originated. K.

Also, 2.4.6 imports "Word" documents as a bunch of question marks and there is no sign of more-gconv-modules on that repository.

So that was a waste of time...

I foolishly tried the 2.4.6 version! Mistake! I now can't revert to the 2.2.7 version ;( it does not now appear in the app installer. I have tried downloading and installing to no avail. I have removed the 2.4.6
repository. Can anyone sugest a fix?

thanks
Rick
